Johnny Mnemonic
I have a bit of downtime while some work is done on our gas boiler, and while I wait for some DIY stuff to dry.
I've started watching Johnny Mnemonic on a free streaming service, with ads.
I never saw it before, despite being really keen on William Gibson's books/work(/attention to characters' clothing detail?). The Matrix is one of my favourite films, and there are obviously strong links through Keanu Reeves, Gibson and the general cyberpunk themes. I've read the original short story too. Apparently there's a newer, black and white edition of Johnny Mnemonic which the director is happier with (loads of studio interference with the cinematic release, it seems).
Brilliant to see that the far future is 2021 and that 320 GB of data is the cause of extreme capacity overload!
It also got me thinking about the fact that I'm now the age that Keanu was when the first Matrix film was in production. This is a serious benchmark for me! I think the last one was 26 (Spike Spiegel, of course).
I know that this is going to be a bad film, but I'm prepared to kind of love it.
